Ruben Fernandez Obituary

Ruben (Tejano) Fernandez passed away peacefully at his home in Alamogordo, NM on Saturday October 31, 2020. He was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure in June of this year, and died of complications. He was 86 years of age.

Ruben was born in San Diego, TX on September 17, 1934; to parents Eutimio and Josepha Fernandez, both deceased. He grew up in Freer and has several relatives in both Freer and El Paso, TX. His surviving  siblings are: Richard, Armando (Nina, wife), and Elma and deceased brother and sisters; Adan, Lucy, Frank, Arturo and Olga. He is also predeceased by his daughter Elisa Carmen Fernandez (May 11, 1995); who died of colon cancer at the young age of 33.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years (Married April 2, 1988) Nancy Fernandez. Nancy was the love of his life and he was hers. She was always by his side, supporting his many business ventures and never tired of traveling!

Ruben also leaves behind his only son, Rico Fernandez, daughter Lorina Fernandez, daughter Blanca Richardson (husband, Chris); and daughter Lisa Fernandez. Additionally, Nancy’s daughter’s; Bonnie Santos, Celeste Camacho, Tina Nebiolini and Jolene Guerra. He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandkids (and counting) and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Ruben served proudly in the Army of the United States where he was honorably discharged in 1962. He then went to work for The American Can company in Fremont, CA., where he retired in 1987. Ruben was also a successful Real Estate Broker; Donut Shop owner; and owned the Starlight Video Store in Willows CA., which he and daughter Jolene successfully managed for over 10 years.

Ruben, you will always be remembered and loved deeply by all who had the privilege to cross your path. Thank you for your service to our great country! You are a true American Patriot!
