Memorial Service for (Patt) Norman Russell Patterson will be at Mayhill Baptist Church, Nov 27, at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Patterson died at home from lymphoma cancer. Patt's spirit soared into Heaven's light at 11:30 P.M. MST November 18, 2010. He was the son of the late Ezra Russell Patterson and Edna Mae Crysel. He was born Jul 12, 1930 in Beckley, Raleigh Co., WV. Patt is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Shipp Patterson, married Jun 29, 1965, in AL, daughter, Georgia faye Patterson Moore, Midland, TX, sister, Margie Patterson Hunter, Chesapeake Beach, MD one grand-daughter, Jamie Vasquez, Killeen, TX, five great-grandchildren and many WV relatives.
CWO-4 Patterson served 23 years as a helicopter pilot and Aviation safety officer in the United States Army, retiring in 1985. He served two tours in Viet Nam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and several other metals.
He graduated from Stucco High School, WV, earned a BA (fine arts) from Maryville College, TN, completing his education with a MA (management) from Webster's University, CO in 1984.
He was a member of Mayhill Baptist Church serving as song leader for ten years. Patt loved singing with a choir. His melodic base voice added depth and harmony to the music. His teamwork attitude and project participation contributed greatly to his church and community.
Noted as a man of strong honor and character, he was much respected as an Army soldier, leader, confidant and friend by all who knew him. He was generous to the needy always offering a helpful hand. His wit and humor were extra-ordinary giving the gift of laughter. He will be sorely missed by his many friends and family.
