Michael O'Brien Obituary

Michael O’Brien died November 20th, 2023.  He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Michelle; children, Stephanie and Kelly O’Brien, David Jemmett and grandchildren, Dr. Jessica Jacob, Alisha Jemmett and Jacob Jemmett; former spouse, Carole O’Brien all of Phoenix and his favorite mother-in-law, Gwen Wallace of Salt Lake City. brothers in arms, Ross Beason of Arizona, Dan Stanger of Utah, Dale Spencer of New Mexico and Michael Pate of Oklahoma.

Born in Phoenix Arizona in 1942, the only child of Jess and Helen O’Brien, he moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico in 1987. A 50-year career in Real Estate Sales and Development included developments from Tucson to Taos concluded with Rainmakers Golf and Country Club in Alto, NM.  As a non-golfer he often commented what a surprise it was to find himself as a development partner in an 18-hole award winning golf course community.  

A lover of fine food, travel, and good cocktail, Michael surrounded himself with lifelong friends as well as new ones he made easily.  If you have ever had a Mike O’Brien special at El Paraiso, you have him to thank.  He loved the beach and the water and always claimed that tan fat was better looking than white fat.  He was loyal to a fault with the Dallas Cowboys.  

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. William Cobb of Dallas, MD Anderson Cancer Center as well as UCLA Medical Center for all the wonderful care.  A celebration of life will be announced later in the spring.  Wonderful friends are the family you choose, Michael was blessed with wonderful friends.

The O'Brien family has entrusted their loved one to the care of New Dawn Cremations.  Cremation will take place at PCS.
