Martha Pauline Duncan

February 5, 1929 ~ July 28, 2023 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Obituary

Martha Pauline (Polly) Duncan went to be with our Lord after 94 wonderful years on July 28, 2023. Polly was born on February 5, 1929 in Koshkonomg, Missouri to Crayton and Lora Ellison as the youngest of six children.  Polly moved to the Otero County (Mayhill/Cloudcroft) area in the mid-1930's so her father could have a better environment for his health.  The family farmed and raised cattle in the area.  In 1946, she married Eugene Duncan at the home of Preacher Elkins in Alamogordo.

Polly was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Wince, Linn and Arthur Ellison; sisters, Vinetta Goss and Theda (House) Cody; and son-in-law, James Fuller, Sr.

Survivors include her daughters, Marsha Fuller and Eugenia and son-in-law Darrell Johnson; her grandchildren, Edward Fuller, James and wife Shannon Fuller, Trevor Fuller, Brandon Johnson, and Tiffany and husband, Issam Ghareeb.  She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many others that she welcomed into her family and home.  Polly always treated others as if they were family so there are many that call her Grandma and Aunt.

As a young couple, Polly and Eugene lived and visited a variety of places depending on where his job took them, including a honeymoon in New Your City and Niagara Falls.  She was a devoted wife and mom and eventually the family settled back in Alamogordo in the late 1950's where she was loved by all she knew.  Polly was a caregiver.  She loved to take care of others and to give of herself and her heart to help whether they needed it or not.  Through the years, Polly worked at Piggly Wiggly, Safeway and IGA and those jobs allowed her to meet and visit with so many people in the area.

Polly was the kindest of souls and had a beautiful heart of gold.  She enjoyed sewing, exercising, cooking, and especially socializing.  She cared deeply for family but also for others.  Since she loved to cook, she would feed anyone.  Always selfless and tenderhearted, Polly demonstrated compassion in so many ways.  Those who knew her never had an unkind word to say about her and she never said an unkind word about others.  If you were lucky enough to cross her path, you were blessed by her in so many ways.

The Duncan family has entrusted their loved one to the care of PCS Direct Cremation Service.  At Polly's request, there will not be a large service but instead family and friends will honor her at a graveside memorial on Saturday, August 12th at 10 am to be officiated by Marvin Hays from the Church of Christ.
