Judith Johnson Obituary

Judith Johnson

Judith “Judy” Ann Rodrigue Johnson, age 79, of Carrizozo, NM, graduated from this life to her eternal home in heaven on Sunday April 17, 2022.

Judy was born on December 27, 1942 in Lockport, LA. She met the love of her life, Johnie, in 1961 in Grand Isle, LA and the pair were married three months later. They resided in numerous places in Louisiana and New Mexico before settling into their home in Raceland, LA. In 1976 they moved to Midway, NM (South of Roswell) with their three children, then onto to Tularosa, NM and finally to Carrizozo, NM for the remainder of their lives. During her life, Judy taught in both the Mescalero Elementary School as well as the Tularosa Elementary School. She served alongside her husband, who was the longest serving pastor of Carrizozo Community Church (Assembly of God). She had a deep love for music and dancing and led worship for the church each Sunday. She loved everything vintage and Victorian style and had a shop - Mary Rose’s Cottage in Carrizozo that she ran for many years. She was an avid gardener, a lover of genealogy and an absolute chocoholic.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, Johnie Johnson of Carrizozo, NM, Chris Johnson (Angela) of Albuquerque, NM and Samantha Johnson Parsons (Jerry) of Tularosa, NM; brother Valcour Rodrigue (Joan) of Lockport, LA; sisters Joyce Rodrigue Aaron (Bill) of Phoenix, AZ and Patricia “Pat” Rodrigue Bourgeois (Gene) of Lockport, LA; grandchildren Alicia Johnson, Jonathan Johnson, Amanda Johnson, Jerry Parsons, Crystal Johnson and Shonda Parsons Jones (Tanner); her beloved great grandchildren Khiara, Malikhi’, Khai’-Lee, Ju’liska, Zaveyah, Weston, Khristiana, Delaney, Brody and Stormi Rose; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Johnie Johnson; her beloved parents Alcide Valcour Rodrigue and Mary Rose Welch Rodrigue; infant sister Mary Rose Rodrigue; half sisters Rosemary Bryant Clemenson, Elizabeth Bryant Kinnard, Edith Rodrigue Cunningham, Anna Mae Rodrigue Richoux, Ida Mae Rodrigue Toups, Dorothy Rodrigue Loupe and Doris Rodrigue; half brothers Walter, Warren, Clifton, Alcide, Richard and Murphy Rodrigue and John Thomas Bryant.

Per her request, there will be no viewing or traditional funeral service. Her family will be holding a Celebration of Life for her at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, family or friends who desire to make a memorial contribution in Judy’s name, can do so to one of her favorite foundations - The Wounded Warrior Project or Samaritan’s Purse.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
