Joseph Stercks

Joseph F Stercks of Alamogordo NM and formally of Nampa ID was born on May 18, 1935 in Philadelphia PA to Joseph H and Grace M Stercks. He went home to his risen Savior Jesus Christ on October 3, 2025.

After moving to the great Northwest from Pennsylvania, he met the love of his life Sylvia Zerby at the Timberline Lodge of Mount Hood, Oregon. They were married in Portland, OR on October 24, 1958. Our parents had six children: Charles, David, Andrew, Margaret, Rebecca and Isaac. They had 63 years of wedded bliss, until our mother passed away on January 31, 2022.

Our father was a great provider, sometimes working three different jobs at a time, including being a pastor to provide for his growing family. He obtained his pastoral license in 1965 and for many years pastored Bible missionary churches in Washington, West Virginia, Texas, and New Mexico until 1989. He then, with his loving wife's help, assisted in Christian schools in Torreón, NM and later Tacoma, WA.

In 1994 they moved to Boise Idaho, where he worked for Ada County until he retired. While still working for the county, they moved to Nampa where they purchased a home. They lived there until 2020 when they moved to Alamogordo NM to live with their daughter, Becky and her husband Dan due to declining health.

Joseph loved serving the Lord and reading his Bible. Two favorite passages were John 14:1-3 and the 23rd Psalm. He loved to sing the hymns. Some of his favorites, which we love to hear him sing, were “On the Wings of a Dove”, “Blessed, Redeemer”, and “Down from his Glory”.

He was a jack of all trades and never afraid to take on a new trade to provide for his family. In his spare time and retirement, he loved woodworking. We treasure the things he built for his wife, children and grandchildren.

Joseph was proceeded in death by his parents, his only sibling, Grace and his loving wife, Sylvia. Joseph is survived by his children Charles (Susan), David (Jane), Andrew (Diane), Peggy O'Leary, Becky Howell (Daniel), Isaac (Kelly) and his grandchildren, Loretta, Melissa, Annie, David, Sarah, Joe, Jessica, Ethan, Seth, Shiloh, Chance, Fancy Jo, Cheyenne and 12 great grandchildren. 

Direct Cremation will take place under the care of PCS Direct Cremation Services.
