John Foster Merrigan

John F. Merrigan of Alamogordo died peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at his home surrounded by his wife Terry and members of his extended family.  John was born April 28, 1934 to Michael S. and Vora Foster Merrigan in Burlington MA where he grew up.  John joined the Air Force in 1955 and returned to Burlington to marry his high school sweetheart Teresa Biagiotti in 1956.  They were happily married for 65 years.  John was a true patriot and served his country with pride for four years.  After leaving the Air Force, he began a 37-year career as a certified aircraft mechanic with Raytheon Corporation.  His career brought him to Holloman Air Force Base in 1974 and he fell in love with the Southwest.  Temporary duty assignments at Holloman eventually became permanent and he and Terry lived happily in Alamogordo for 47 years.  One of his favorite places was White Sands National Monument where he served as a volunteer docent after his retirement in 1996.  He was a lector at St. Jude’s Catholic Church and a faithful parishioner for over 45 years.  John loved sports and faithfully supported his favorite Boston teams including the Red Sox, the Patriots and the Bruins. Above everything else, he adored and supported Terry, the love of his life.

John was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Vora Merrigan and his sister Marjorie Cooper.  He is survived by his wife Terry, his faithful cat Bandit, several nieces and nephews and many extended family members who affectionately knew him as Uncle John.

Services for John will be celebrated at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 1404 College Avenue, Alamogordo, NM on Monday, June 28, 2021.  A Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. with a funeral mass to follow at 10:30 a.m.  Inurnment at the St. Jude’s Columbarium will follow immediately after the funeral mass.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.

The Merrigan family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Professional Crematory Services.
