Mike began his career with Pepsi Consolidated Bottling Company in 1974 as a delivery driver. One of his outstanding employees, Ted Schultz, was a long-term employee with Mike. He said Mike was the best boss to everyone that worked with him. Ann Carlsen, Mike's office administrator at Pepsi for 19 years, also expressed accolades for Mike's successful leadership and concern for all employees. Mike retired from Pepsi in April 2004.

Mike's true passion was riding and racing dirt bikes (motorcycles). He won many trophies racing in the desert. His dear friend, Curtis "Mack" Waddell, started racing with him later in Mike's racing career. He said Mike was competitive, fearless, and one of the best desert riders in the state. Our illustrious Mike began his volunteering career in January 2007 with the Alamogordo AARP Tax Aide site. He served for 14 years. Not only did he prepare and transmit tax returns but served as the office computer guru. Mike made many long-lasting friendships during this time. Carol Mikburn, whose husband worked for the competition, Coca Cola, was a very dear and supportive friend. Our AARP supervisor, Norm Renfrow, also had a long friendship in and outside of the office with Mike. Mike was loved and admired by all that met him. He loved his dogs, even all the hair, the long walks, and the cuddle time. His last dog, Lily, now resides with his good friend, Ted.

We appreciate your honoring and remembering Mike's life with us. He will be deeply missed by all. We welcome you to share a meal at the Smokey Bear Restaurant in Capitan after the service.
