Douglas Ream Obituary

Douglas M Ream, 71, passed away December 7, 2023, peacefully in his home surrounded by family in Alamogordo, New Mexico after a short, unexpected fight with cancer. He was born on May 16, 1952, in Waukegan, Illinois to Nicholas F.  and Helen K. (Hertel) Ream of Antioch, IL.

Doug spent 13 years active duty in the United States Army (1971-1984) and 23 years civil service with the Department of the Army as a met tech at WSMR (1984-2008). Doug was an avid amateur HAM radio operator- call sign AB5FG. He was active in the HAAM/Friends of Bill W network (2008-2023). Doug celebrated 42 years of sobriety in 2023 and was an active friend of Bill W.  Doug lived life to the fullest. He was always “fixing things.” Doug loved to go RVing with his wife Laurie and their cat Tigger. They visited many beautiful places mostly in New Mexico and Arizona. He constantly monitored the weather, a love he had even after retirement.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Laurie A. Ream of Alamogordo, NM; his daughters, Rhonda (Ream) Bowers (Kenyon Bowers) of Santa Rosa, CA; Dona (Ream) Martinez (Martin Martinez) of Las Cruces, NM; Lea Anne Kirk of Phoenix, AZ and Jessica Kirk of Phoenix, AZ; his grandchildren, Domanic Bowers of Cazadero, CA and Emily Bowers of Santa Rosa, CA; his brother, Nicholas Ream (Deb Ream) of Slidell, LA and his sister, Susan (Ream) Munch (Richard Munch) of Powers Lake, WI.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1985, his mother in 2019, and his brother, William “Bill” Ream in 2021.
