David Wofford Obituary

David (Dave) J. Wofford

David J. Wofford left this earth June 1, 2014 at the age of 81 to join his beloved wife of 16 years, Anna D. Wofford, to continue their Harley rides for eternity.
Dave was a descendent from the pioneer families of Wofford and Lacey that settled in the Otero County area in the late 1800's. In his youth, he played football, participated in the school band and was class president at Tularosa High School. He was proud to have served his country in the Army National Guard during the Korean Conflict.
Dave worked as a rancher, farmer and miner in his youth. For most of his adult life, Dave was a logger, road builder and heavy equipment contractor. Many of the mountain roads in the Lincoln National Forest, driven by unknowing motorists, hunters and nature lovers, were roads built by Dave. He was well known for his quality work, honesty and integrity. Dave influenced and mentored many people to pursue their dreams and aspirations
During the 1970s, Dave owned and operated the La Luz Speedway motorcycle racetrack. The track was THE place for locals to be entertained on Saturday nights. The track was renowned as the premier racetrack in the state and provided a competition outlet for youths for a 600 mile radius.
No one will miss "Daddy" more than his four children and their spouses; Connie and Jack Polston, Lorne and Kim Wofford, Rhonda and Buddy De Long and Darlene Duvall and her companion Roy McCollum. He was very proud of his children and loved them more than words could translate. "Grandpa Dave" proudly watched his grandchildren grow into responsible young adults and delighted as great-grandchildren were added into his life. He enjoyed a special relationship with his step-daughter Dee Ann Ross and her husband Steve. He is also survived by his sister Helen Murrow of Las Cruces.
Dave's family deeply appreciates all those that shared their personal stories of gratitude, admiration and respect and of how Dave had touched their lives.
No services will be held, per Dave's request, and the family will honor his wishes.
When remembering Dave Wofford, do it with a smile on your face and warmth in your heart for that is what would please him the most.
