Betty Jean Boles Johnson
When Betty Jean took her last breath on Thursday morning, March 28, 2013, she was immediately in the presence of Jesus. This we know because the bible tells us, 2nd Corinthians 5:8, "Absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." And all of Betty Jean's friends know that her homecoming was a glorious one. Praise the Lord!
Betty Jean was born August 23, 1931 in Seymour Texas to Luther C. Boles and Gladys Scribner. The next year the family moved to Alamogordo NM where she went through the Alamogordo school system graduating in 1950. One of her fondest memories about her high school days was her being selected as the most outstanding Home Economics student 4 years in succession.
Betty was married to her husband Ronald Johnson on December 11, 1954 in Alamogordo, NM. She is survived by her husband Ronald; 2 daughters, Mrs. Penny Johnson Cook and Lyle of Glendale Arizona, and Mrs. Pamela Johnson Taylor and Richard of Monterey, California; 2 sisters in law, Betty (Calvin) Boles and Wanda (Edwin) Boles of Alamogordo and numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 sisters Mrs. Virginia Wilcox and Mrs. Nadine Beasley and 3 brothers, Ishmael Boles, Calvin Boles and Edwin Boles.
Betty was a member of Christ Community Church and taught many Sunday school classes and held Christian group meetings in her home over the 35 years she attended Christ Community Church. She was a member of the DAR. Betty was an excellent seamstress and made all of her daughter's school clothes, and graduated from a millinery school making all types of hats. She made very beautiful paper flowers, which she called Fantasy Flowers, and was also in the business of making dolls "Betty's Baby Dolls" that rivaled the dolls that were on the market. Betty loved to make cakes of all kinds specializing in beautiful elegant looking and wonderful tasting wedding cakes. She was always surprising the family like the day she decided to send Princess Diana a quilt for her expected baby (Prince William). She received an exceptionally warm letter from Princess Diana's Lady in Waiting telling her that their Royal Highnesses were really delighted to have this magnificent quilt. Also that the Prince and Princess wish to congratulate her on her workmanship and how grateful they were for Betty Jean's generosity in giving them this splendid present. During the Iraq war, Betty sent out over 4,000 laminated copies of Psalm 91 and Ephesians 6:14 -20 "The Full Armor of God" to service members serving in Iraq.
Memorial Services will be held at Christ Community Church at 10 a.m. Saturday April 13, 2013, with Pastor Jack Brock officiating. Should you desire to make a memorial donation, suggestions are Christ Community Church; or Animal Village of New Mexico, 7246 U.S. Highway 54/70, Alamogordo.
