Arturo “Tuti” Montoya passed in his sleep on November 15, 2022. He was born on December 20, 1929, to Miguel Montoya and Catarina Sainz Montoya.
He was preceded in death by his wife Christina Flores Montoya, his parents and his sisters Adelina Varela, Amanda Lucero, Josephine Cates, Calina Martinez and his brothers Miguel Montoya Jr. and Manuel Montoya.
He is survived by numerous nephews and nieces and grand and great grand nephews and nieces.
Tuti, as the family and all who knew him called him, was the last of the original Montoya family members from “Chihuahuita”, New York Avenue, in Alamogordo.
Arturo was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was an usher for the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for more than 3 decades. He participated in many other church activities. Whatever the church needed, he was there willing and able to help.
Arturo retired from White Sand Missile Range on September 10, 1985, after 30 years of service to the Department of the Army with many commendations from the range commander for his excellence in service.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate “Uncle Tuti's life at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 705 Delaware Ave on Friday October 27, 2023. A rosary will be conducted at 10:30 am, mass will follow at 11:00 am. Interment of Uncle Tuti's ashes will follow, the mass, at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. There will be a reception at the parish hall following the interment of ashes.
The Montoya family has entrusted their loved one to the care of PCS Direct Cremation Service for direct cremation.
